Phoniatrics is the medical specialty dealing with the study and treatment of voice, speech, language, hearing, and swallowing disorders. The Union of the European Phoniatricians (UEP) is a platform for the exchange of expert knowledge, clinical experience and scientific work in this area. UEP promotes the cooperation of phoniatricians in Europe, its neighbouring countries and those countries that have put the European model of Phoniatrics into practice.

Furthermore, the UEP continuously informs about relevant congresses, meetings, and summer schools. The main topic is the harmonisation of the training programs in Europe, and the development of concerted training standards, to gain a high quality of phoniatric care for all European patients. These tasks will be realised in cooperation with the European Union of Medical Specialists (U.E.M.S.).

In addition, the UEP functions as an umbrella for all European colleagues, giving information and advice in cases of professional problems. Annually a bulletin reporting news about relevant developments in Europe and neighbouring countries will be emailed to all UEP members.
